Cristiano Ronaldo Happy About Real Madrid's Dominance In The Champions League
9 December 2009Cristiano Ronaldo was the man of the match against Marseille on Tuesday night as Real Madrid played their last game of the UEFA Champions group stages.
The Portuguese winger scored twice in both halves as Los Blancos rolled on to an entertaining 3-1 win at the Stade Velodrome.
This victory sealed Real Madrid’s place at the top of Group C as they qualified into the last sixteen of the tournament. Reflecting on the match and his performance, Cristiano Ronaldo told TVE afterward:
“It was a good game. I congratulate my team; they played very well in the second period.
“I am also happy because I scored two goals and I helped the team to finish first in the group.”
Ronaldo continued:
“Ideally, we’ll face a team of a lower level [in the last sixteen]. But being first has also helped us to gain confidence. Let us see what happens.”
However, Cristiano Ronaldo will not be able to add some icing on the cake this weekend as he has to serve a ban.
The player sustained a red card against Almeria last Saturday and he will therefore miss Real Madrid’s crucial match against Valencia.
Speaking about that, Ronaldo said:
“I apologized for what I did [against Almeria]. But I have confidence that my team-mates will get a good result.”
