Yes, Cristiano Ronaldo is leaving the rainy and cosy city of Manchester where he spent six years as a professional footballer. The grown kid of Madeira is heading to the sunny Spanish capital where he will embrace the likes of big star players like Kaka, Raul, Casillas, and the likes of new comers like Karim Benzema and Raul Albiol, and possibly Ribery. A new era at the galactic club named Real Madrid is set to begin soon, and Cristiano Ronaldo will be part of the history.

Ronaldo: Goodbye to you, dear Manchester United and Alex Ferguson

The days he had in Manchester United are now part of the past, but Cristiano Ronaldo explained that everything at the club will always remain in his heart. Speaking to the media today, the 24-year-old Fifa Player of the Year and Golden Ball winner revealed:

“I was a boy when I arrived at Manchester and now I’m leaving a man. This club and its fans will always have a place in my heart,”

Alex Ferguson was the main factor behind Cristiano Ronaldoâ€s development from an unknown skilful kid called a “clown”, to the best player on the planet. Talking about the old Scot, Ronaldo continued:

“I can never repay the confidence he has shown in me over the years. He made me aware that I would be one of the best players in the world, he gave me that belief. He gave me the No 7 shirt because he believed I could do it justice.”

It has been reported that Cristiano Ronaldo flied with a private jet from Portugal to Manchester to meet Alex Ferguson for a final goodbye.

The pair met at a restaurant in Alderley Edge Hotel which is believed to be one of Alex Fergusonâ€s favourite restaurants.

Commentating on the secret meeting between Cristiano Ronaldo and Alex Ferguson, a source at the hotel explained:

“It was a low-key affair. Cristiano just wanted to say thanks for everything Sir Alex had done for him.”

Cristiano Ronaldoâ€s childhood dream of playing for Real Madrid is the main reason behind his departure from Manchester United to the Spanish capital. However, the fleet-footed Portuguese winger also singled out another reason for his decision to leave the English Premier League.

Speaking to the media, Ronaldo said:

“There are some teams who know they can’t compete with you on a football level, so they just kick you.

“It’s frustrating and something needs to be done to protect the skilful players because one day someone will get seriously hurt. I think more could be done to protect us but that is up to the referees to decide.”

Cristiano Ronaldo played much of the 2007/2008 EPL season under pain caused by constant fouls which he suffered in almost every game. Either way, his 18 goals in the Premier League helped Manchester United to win the crown for the third straight time. Manchester United also won the Carling Cup after an excellent Fifa World Club Cup campaign far away in Japan.

In the last weeks of the season, Cristiano Ronaldo displayed some good football. His wonder goal against Porto and his brace against Arsenal in the Champions League describe it all.

In his final game for Manchester United in Rome, Cristiano Ronaldo was at the centre of attraction for the opening ten minutes. He gave a real scare to Barcelona, but after Manchester Unitedâ€s defence stumbled to a goal from Samuel Etoâ€o, it was all over for the Red Devils.

The former European defending champions finally had their crown removed after their 2-0 defeat to Barcelona.

In all, we can say that Manchester United had a good season and Cristiano Ronaldo is happy when he takes a look back at it. However, he would have wished for a perfect goodbye.

“It was nice to leave after winning another title, but it would have been perfect to win another European Cup. That defeat really hurt so when people say you don’t show loyalty, I just don’t listen.”

Cristiano Ronaldo now has his eyes turned on Real Madrid – the club he always dreamed about as a kid. His career at Manchester United seemed to be six years of hard work, reward, and temptations.

Ronaldo, who was speaking to The Sun, completely revealed his anger against Alex Ferguson and his tactics during the final:

“Ferguson did not tell me anything. Nothing.

It is a huge possibility that Cristiano Ronaldo would want an exit from Manchester to join Real Madrid in the summer, but the 24-year-old, who pledged his future for the Red Devils a week ago, looks annoyed and confused about the current situation.

At 24, Ronaldo has got everything a club player could wish for; Money flows from his pockets, while trophies and individual awards are not rare for him and his Mancunian club.

It is obviously simple to seat back and think: Why would someone like Ronaldo opt to join a disgraced and wounded Real Madrid side where thereâ€ll be some intense pressure to perform and influence the whole of the squad to find back its high standards? Perhaps these speculations are all false, just something to please the curious media! However, it is also true that Cristiano Ronaldoâ€s harsh behavior against Manchester City – when he had to come off as a substitute – seems to reveal that the relationship between Cristiano Ronaldo and Sir Alex Ferguson isnâ€t that healthy.

Reports suggest that Ferguson didnâ€t confront Ronaldo after the match, and if the 67-year-old Scot described Ronaldoâ€s attitude as a positive one that shows the playerâ€s motivation to play, the rest of Manchester Unitedâ€s squad werenâ€t please at all with what happened.

A source was quoted as saying in The Sun:

“A number were unhappy about Ronaldoâ€s behaviour and told him so,”

“A lot of these players have grown up with Alex Ferguson as their manager and do not like seeing anyone show him disrespect.”

Further reports explain that Ronaldo finally gave in and consequently admitted his mistake after his team-mates blasted him in the dressing rooms. Was Ronaldo really repenting from his actions or was he only trying to cool down everyoneâ€s temper?

This summer is certainly Alex Fergusonâ€s toughest moment in his career. In his entire 21 years as the manager of Manchester United, the best thing – arguably – that has ever happened to him was the arrival of two Portuguese: Carlos Queiros and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Since the death of his father in 2005, Ronaldo adopted the former Portuguese boss as his new daddy. If Carlos Queiros indeed played a major role in inspiring and guiding the winger to these prowesses, it is quite understandable that Ronaldo might see no reason why he should stay at Old Trafford to honour his contract since Queiros himself is no more in England.

Ronaldoâ€s present amazing style of play found it’s roots in his childhood. As a boy, Cristiano had always been mentally strong with the dream of being a notable footballer. Physically, Ronaldo was devoted and smart; at the age of 12, he joined Alcochete, the soccer kindergarten of Sporting Club in Lisbon where the head coach was none other than the illustrious Carlos Queiros.

Coincidently, these two – Ronaldo and Queiros – met again in England, where their presence powered Manchester United to both domestic and European glory.

Now, Queiros has quit his post as the assistant coach of the Scottish man Alex Ferguson to manage the senior national team of Portugal. Ronaldoâ€s dream of playing in Spain and for Real Madrid especially had been burning in the wingerâ€s heart for years. And if it was only Carlos Queiros who could prevent him from leaving the Theatre of Dreams sooner, now that this man has left, why not Ronaldo?

All by himself, well-grown Ronnie will have to defend his worth and name in club football.

What a saga! There are so many people involved in Ronaldoâ€s transfer story. It’s not only made up of Real Madrid, Manchester United and Ronaldo, but also of his family and friends.

In between the great Pelé and the reigning footballer of the year Kaka, there are superstars like Enrique Iglesias and Rafael Nadal who contribute in widening the dimension of the transfer saga.

The most incredible part of this saga is the amount of different zones people have ended up in:

On one side, there is Cristiano Ronaldo – supported by two Madridists: the king of clay Nadal and the Spanish pop star Enrique Iglesias who are both keen on seeing the Portuguese play for Real.

On the other, thereâ€s Pelé who supports Manchester Unitedâ€s opinion that Ronaldo should honour his contract. Ironically, Madrid players also find themselves in this ‘zone†after publicly handing Ronaldo a snub on Wednesday night.

Then in a completely different group, there is Ramon Calderon who would love to sign Ronaldo but who is very uncertain – like Ronaldoâ€s family – about the finalisation of a deal.

As for Ricardo Kaka, he since hasnâ€t made any comments on the transfer saga like Beckham, Cannavaro or Nilsterooy all did. The loyal Rossoneri ace only confessed his admiration towards Ronaldo to the Italian sport magazine La Gazetta Dello Sport. He stated that Ronaldo had done a lot for the Red Devils to achieve both the EPL and the Champions League title and that therefore, the Portuguese deserved to succeed him as the worldâ€s best player.

Either way, the ultimate question still remains: how is the transfer saga going to end?

In two weeks, Cristiano Ronaldo will be in talks with Alex Ferguson – a meeting that could reveal the final part of the saga. From a Ronaldo fan point of view, there is dream, honour, and self-respect to follow. If Ronaldo had a twin, all the questions and inconveniences in this “war” would have been resolved – as one could have remained at Old Trafford, and the other, leave for Real.

Best of all, the December awards would have revealed which decision was the better one – to stay in England or to move to Madrid.

Whether these rumours are true or false, Sepp Blatter employed the term ‘slavery†over the transfer saga issue, which has consequently provoked intense debates.

In these last few weeks, possibilities that Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo would leave Manchester United for Real were very high. With Ronaldo buying a house in Madrid, most people thought Alex Ferguson had lost the war.

But these suggestions prove to be untrue as Ronaldo has done probably the “biggest u-turn” of this summer transfer issues: Cristiano will remain at Old Trafford next season.

However, money has certainly played a great part in Ronaldoâ€s decision to stay in England. Last week, Ramon Calderon declared that the Spanish Champions had no intention in signing anyone at a price of 100 million euros.

In the meantime, it has been reported that Manchester United have offered their star winger a jet and a pilot. This explains that if money is the reason why Ronaldo wants to leave, United are rich enough to provide the young man with everything he wishes in order for him to remain in the club.

Whichever is the real cause why Ronaldo will not be joining the Spanish giants, the 23 year old superstar has come back to his “father” Alex Ferguson. Ronaldo will be staying in England, where he can be given love and affection like nowhere else as Manchester Unitedâ€s assistant coach said.

Since June 19th, the Euros are over for Cristiano Ronaldo. One could suggest that Portugalâ€s exit is due to the fact that talismanic Ronaldo might have been distracted because of matters surrounding his club future.

Whichever is the cause, the reality is that Portugal could not make it into the semifinals and that Cristiano Ronaldo can now concentrate on his future with Manchester United.

Real Madrid is a club who often wins in transfer cases. After being able to sign Beckham from Manchester, perhaps will they get the other number 7 shirt too: Cristiano Ronaldo.

Real Madrid President Raymond Calderon earlier told the media that his club werenâ€t “chasing” the Portuguese star though Unitedâ€s Chairman David Gill insists the Spanish club have used “illegal” manners to try and take Ronaldo away from his current club.

Is United then trying to accuse Real Madrid of manipulating the young man?

Probably yes. But now Cristiano Ronaldo has firmly set up his mind on quitting the English Premiership as he stated in an interview that he doesnâ€t mind bothering Fergie.

He still hasnâ€t officially announced his plans but brief comments describe his feelings; Madrid is the club of his dreams and a move to Spain will break Zidanâ€s transfer price record.

Ronaldo is a talented player with an attractive personality who loves glamorous ladies such as his new girlfriend Nereida Guallardo. So why not go to Real which is believed by many to be a more glamorous club than Manchester United?

So, Ronaldoâ€s transfer saga is a war between a playerâ€s opinion and a clubâ€s decision..

Alex has promised to resist Francoâ€s team Real Madrid in their will to sign their star. If he can, then Ronaldo will end up staying at Old Trafford next season.

But what good is it to have an uncommitted talisman in a squad?

Truth is Manchester will have to do much better than this if they are to stand any chance of persuading him to stay. Yes, they have done it before, after the last World Cup but this time round Ronaldo himself seems determined to leave.

This may be the difference this time round. Not due back from holiday until 14th July, he is hoping a deal can be thrashed out and thus avoiding an uneasy face to face confrontation with manager Alex Ferguson.

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Ronaldo will be announced as a Real Madrid player on July 7th 2008, which if true, leaves Ferguson without that golden opportunity to display the affection that Queiroz is talking about.
