Gone are the days when Ramon Calderon and Ferguson were fighting in a war of words for the signature of Ronaldo. The 24-year-old mega star has finally realized his childhood dream by joining Real Madrid earlier this summer.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to the Spanish capital put an end to all the rumors and speculations that filled magazines, newspapers, websites, TV, and radio programs with ink or words.

In fact, the Real Madrid saga was ending to make way for a new saga: the Ronaldo Curse saga.

Now at Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t only have to handle pressure on the field, but also off the pitch. It seems like Ronaldo’s private life is taking over his professional career.

This is the result of Pepe The Wizard’s curse on Cristiano Ronaldo. As understood, the wizard – revealed to be Pepe, a 57-year-old professional sorcerer leaving in Malaga – has been contracted by someone personally close to Cristiano Ronaldo.

So if statements are to be taken into consideration, it means that Cristiano Ronaldo’s private life issues are the source behind the problems that he is facing in his professional career.

Ronaldo’s car crash in January 2009, Ronaldo’s failure to score in five consecutive La Liga matches, and Ronaldo’s injury against Marseille that has sidelined him for around one month are believed to be signs of Pepe The Wizard’s curse on the current Ballon d’Or and FIFA World Player of the year.

Ronaldo surely had a good start to his Real Madrid career, but what is the future hiding?

The year 2009 is starting rather slowly for Rocket Ronnie. No training, no games for the moment; the reigning Ballon dâ€Or winner is out of England – and out of football in a sense – for one purpose:

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson believes that letting Ronaldo enjoy a longer period of holidays in his home country Portugal is the perfect remedy for the player to rediscover his missing outstanding shape.

But in what way will this solution have an impact on Ronaldoâ€s performances this season?

The 23 year old earlier made statements in November that he felt homesick when living in Manchester, pointing out the rainy weather of the area as the cause of his nostalgia.

Certainly, returning to Portugal where beaches and the sun are elements that describe the countryâ€s atmosphere, might appease Ronaldo who has had to struggle with his temperament in recent months.
In other words, he may regain the concentration he had been lacking of after enduring frustrating moments this season.

However, one could suggest that Ronaldoâ€s current behaviour and form are manifestations of his psychological dissatisfaction – created after his dream of joining Madrid last summer collapsed. In a more direct way, one could wonder if Ferguson is not being stubborn instead of realistic with his idea of sending the Star winger back in Portugal to recuperate from the homesick emotion he feels in Manchester.

The Scot succeeded against Francoâ€s Madridists to keep the number 7 superstar at Old Trafford. But will he succeed to keep ‘the real†determined and passionate Cristiano Ronaldo?

This remains a real doubt…

In recent weeks, Cristiano Ronaldoâ€s good form looks to have dipped somehow. The Portuguese ace – who had an incredible 2007/08 season – is struggling to emulate his remarkable performance.

Ronaldo seemed to have hit top form after scoring 8 goals when coming back from injury, the last of those being his 100th and 101st goal for the club.

Now, rather than making the headlines for his heroics, Ronaldo gets on the mediaâ€s attention for his negative body language.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson believes that letting Ronaldo leave for his home country Portugal is the perfect solution for his number 7 ace to find back the dazzling form he once had.

This means that Ronaldo will certainly miss Unitedâ€s FA Cup game against Southampton this weekend.

Ronaldo though should be ready in time to face his former Portugal coach Luis Felipe Scolari when Manchester United clash against Chelsea on January 11th.

The story of Cristiano Ronaldo Dos Santos Aveiro is the tale of an ambitious boy achieving his dream of becoming the worldâ€s best.

The former Sporting Lisbon starlet – now a Red Devil player – has developed into one of the biggest conqueror in world football.

The Portuguese has collected many of Manchester United Football Club honours including the Busby award. His skills and determination have helped him integrate in the Manchester United family and for that, Ronaldo pays tribute to none other but one of his ‘fathersâ€, Sir Alex Ferguson :

“The boss is always important for me, not just last season but every season,” Ronaldo stated.

“I am at this club because of him. He saw me in a few games before I played against Manchester United – people think I came here just because I played [well] against United but itâ€s not true.

“He has always helped me and I said to him, ‘I want to be part of this club with you. I want to win trophies with you.’ Heâ€s very important in my career, Sir Alex Ferguson .”

In fact, the old Scot is the one who made Ronaldo stay at United in a heart-to-heart conversation that closed the transfer soap opera on this note: Ronaldo remains at Old Trafford.

Cristiano Ronaldo â€s destiny surely wouldnâ€t have been the same if he had not sacrificed his life for football. As revealed by his beloved mother Dolores Aveiro , Ronaldo might have fallen into drugs and alcohol, which would have ruined his fate.

But the grown kid from Madeira is now on top of the world after a successful year; and perhaps he sees Ferguson like the person who opened the door to the new world of his dreams, the world of professional soccer where he is now a high profiled player and a reigning king.

Portugal and Manchester United Star winger Cristiano Ronaldo was in Paris on Sunday to officially receive the Ballon dâ€Or.

The European Player of the Year now named as the Worldâ€s Best Player by France Football, enjoyed a landslide victory against Barcelonaâ€s Lionel Messi and Liverpoolâ€s Fernando Torres who had to settle for the second and third place respectively.

Speaking to the French channel TF1, Cristiano Ronaldo avowed once again his emotions:

“I’m very, very happy,” he said, “It’s a dream I’ve had since I was younger, I’ve always dreamed about winning it one day.”

The youngest Aveiro then went on to dedicate the award to his family:

“I’m very moved, very happy and I’d like to take this opportunity to dedicate this trophy to my family, they’ve helped me get here,”

“The trophy is splendid, marvellous, very beautiful. I’ve waited for this,” Ronaldo added.

Not forgetting the work of his club mates, the Manchester United Star winger continued:

“But I’d like to thank my fellow professionals especially my team-mates without whom I wouldn’t have been able to win the Ballon d’Or.

“It’s also thanks to them that I have this award.”

Ronaldo also shared his sentiments with the people by explaining why he was so emotional.

“I was 18 when I came to Manchester, very young. I always had great hopes of becoming a great footballer, in Europe and the world and that’s what I’ve always tried to do – to improve year by year.

“Of course it’s not been easy but I don’t regret anything that I’ve done to get here.

“I always dreamed of lifting this trophy and it’s thanks to God that I have it now.”

His manager Sir Alex Ferguson hailed the him for such an amazing season, and revealed that he would love to see Ronaldo winning more of those:

“Of course he can win it again,” Ferguson said on TF1.

“He’s only starting his career. We expect, and I think Cristiano also expects, him to improve.

“I think that when a player gets to 26 that’s when they begin to mature so these next three or four years for Cristiano will prove my point. He’ll win more and I hope he’ll win them at Manchester United.

“Everyone at the club is delighted to see him get this prize because it represents the best award you can get as a footballer, this individual prize.

“He really deserved it when you look at what he did this year, 42 goals from a wing position is amazing.”

“It’s a long time, 40 years, since (George) Best got it so I’m delighted that we have another prestigious moment.

“It’s also part of the legend of Cristiano Ronaldo.”

The legend of the proud King Ronaldo has effectively just commenced. But what will the rest of the story tell? Perhaps the road of success is still long like Fergie mentioned; perhaps the next step to Ronaldoâ€s arrogance – if it is so – is his downfall…

Since Cristiano Ronaldo was confirmed as this yearâ€s Ballon dâ€Or winner, praises havenâ€t stopped flowing from illustrious football personalities. However, some of them have also expressed disenchantment towards the Cristiano Ronaldo’s crowning.
Letâ€s check out who said what…

First, the compliments of his Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson:

”We are very proud. Manchester United had been waiting for this for 40 years. Cristiano is in the tradition of our three other Ballons d’Or. His award is beyond all possible dispute,” he told France Football.

”He is only 23 years old. His best years are ahead of him. In life, you have two categories of people. Those who reach their goal and go to bed saying to themselves ‘I made it’ and the other ones, who are driven by will, desire.

”These ones, when they win the trophy, they say to themselves ‘I go on’… Ronaldo has that sparkle in himself.”

The 2006 World Cup and Golden Ball winner Fabio Cannavaro also congratulated Cristiano Ronaldo. His message was a bit less warm than Fergieâ€s, but all the same, it revealed quite a lot of sincerity:

“He fully deserves the Ballon d’Or but he was off the boil at the Euros,” Cannavaro told La Stampa.

“However, that didn’t matter too much because of what he did before. A Premier League, a Champions League and 42 goals, he didn’t have to do anything else.

“I voted for Cristiano Ronaldo, [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic and Iker Casillas. The best player of the year and the other two are good friends of mine.”

Ronaldoâ€s Manchester United team-mate and personal friend, Patrice Evra, was clearly ecstatic. “Hello Golden Boy!”, the French man greeted the newly crowned World Player of the Year on Tuesday morning.
Speaking to France Football Magazine, Evra hailed the prolific goal scorer with warm words expressing his enthusiastic mood, stating once again that thereâ€s no argument to who is the Worldâ€s best and that he would have retired from football if Ronaldo did not win the Ballon dâ€Or.

Former Portugal captain Luis Figo also sent a message from Italy to his beloved lad Cristiano Ronaldo, declaring his emotions. The Nerazzuri midfielder, who became the second Portuguese player after the legendary Eusebio to lift this trophy in 2000, was extremely proud of the 23 year old Superstar winger and described him as a deserved winner.

On the contrary, his countryman Jose Mourinho was on the other side of opinions when asked if Ronaldo was a worthy winner:

“No, I would have preferred one of my own foreign players to have won the Ballon dâ€Or.”

Italyâ€s Marcelo Lippi also parts with this kind of comments.

“Ronaldo won the Ballon d’Or because European journalists voted for him,” Lippi told Sky Sport Italia.

“I thought that either Lionel Messi or Ronaldo would have won.

“If it was me then I would have given the award to all my Italian squad players as they are my golden ball winners.

“Everytime I make my squad selection, every player which I pick is a Ballon d’Or winner.”

And what did the runner up, Lionel Messi, think about the whole thing?

“I was not ever worried about the Ballon d’Or, much less now.

“Fortunately things are going well for me, but I always say that the most important thing is to keep doing well for the team and to win many titles.

“I am only 21 years old and I have left many things to do in football.”

“Any player would like to win the Ballon dâ€Or, but neither am I obsessed with it,” he told the club’s official website. “I would rather win trophies for Barça or for Argentina.

“I expected to finish second. Ronaldo deserved to win it after everything he achieved and because he had a great year where he won two important trophies.

“All I can do is, carry on working and trying to do things well.”

As for the crowned Golden Boy himself, this is what he had to say:

“This is one that I want to win again because it is so good,” Ronaldo said after clinching the award. “Therefore, I will wake and I will say to myself ‘I want to be even better’.”

Only five days remain for the world to know who will be the next Ballon dâ€Or winner. Due to his amazing performance last season, Cristiano Ronaldo has become the hot favourite to win the award.

Barcelonaâ€s Argentine Superstar Lionel Messi, Spainâ€s Euro 2008 winning captain Iker Casillas and striker Fernando Torres also all vie for the honour.

However, Liverpoolâ€s number 9 fully believes that Ronaldo is the right man for the price.

“No-one can rival him,” the Spaniard told France Football a week ago. “He is in a class of his own. I have never seen a comparable player.”

“What he did last season is incredible,” Torres continued. “No-one won this year what he’s won: UEFA Champions League, Premier League and Golden Boot,” he added.

El Nino had a wonderful season with Manchester Unitedâ€s archrivals Liverpool; He bagged 33 goals in the entire season and finished second best with 24 goals in the Premier Leagueâ€s Top Scorers Chart.
But Torres seems far from feeling any kind of jealousy or dissatisfaction should he not win both the Ballon dâ€Or and the Fifa Player of the Year awards.

“For me he is the best player in the world,” Torres explained, talking about Ronaldo. “A machine. Incomparable,” he concluded.

Torres is not the only one to think that Ronaldo is undoubtedly the right candidate for the prestigious award.
Manchester Unitedâ€s boss Sir Alex Ferguson also expressed himself on this issue two nights ago, after his sideâ€s game away to Villareal.

“If Ronaldo doesn’t win the Ballon D’Or this season I will quit as manager,” Fergie said to SKY Italia with a smile.

What a harsh threat to the voters from the 66 year old coach! The reality is that Ferguson – who hasnâ€t decided himself yet to quit his managerial career in football – is not ready either to see someone else than his beloved Ronaldo grabbing the Ballon dâ€Or into his hands.

Reading into his comments after Portugalâ€s exit from Euro 2008, it seems Ronaldo has listened to outgoing Portugal coach Scolari rather than Alex Ferguson on his burning desire to join Real Madrid.

There is no doubt the Ronaldo and Ferguson relationship has soured. Those joyous scenes of them hugging and celebrating after winning the Champions League seem a far distant memory. Who would have thought just a short period after this Ferguson and Manchester Utd would contemplate putting the player in the stands rather than sell him on.

But this is no ordinary player. This is the most coveted player in the world today. And in Manchesterâ€s treatment of him they may have forgotten this might tip him over the edge and make Realâ€s interest in him more attractive to a footballer who it seems has had enough of being sheided and protected by Ferguson in particular.
